Social Media Marketing in 2022: Predictions and Trends
When it comes to marketing your business, it’s never too early to start planning for the new year. While more trends will begin to emerge as 2021 continues, the team at Red Website Design has shared an initial collection of ideas to keep in mind.
To help you start ideating on your strategy for 2022, we’ve broken down their findings here:
Social media is used as a shopping platform
As a result of the pandemic, online shopping has become the primary outlet for consumers. To capitalize on this shift in behavior, platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, etc., have started upping their eCommerce game so that users can make purchases through the apps.
Overall, the number of social commerce buyers in the United States has increased by 25.2%, reaching over 80 million. That number is expected to exceed over 100 million by 2023.
Short-form video content is king
When you think about short-form video content, TikTok is probably the first platform that comes to mind. Within the first three months of 2020, the app was downloaded over 315 million times worldwide, setting a new record for quarterly downloads by any app.
To compete with TikTok, Instagram created ‘Reels,’ allowing users to create and upload videos under 30 seconds long. According to the article, around 82% of online content will consist of videos by 2022.
Social media becomes part of daily life
While this may seem like a no-brainer, it’s still important to consider this fact. While daily social media usage is nothing new, searches for the term are still up 17% over five years.
On average, people spend over two hours per day on social platforms. This is about one hour longer than people were spending on social in 2012.
Facebook remains a key platform
Despite the rise of other social media apps and negative press coverage, Facebook is still the most used platform in the world. The social media giant has over 1.8 billion daily users and had around 23 billion total visitors in January of this year. The average user spends about one hour of their day on Facebook every day. You should continue to consider this platform as a priority for your business!
Shorter attention spans = shorter content
While the amount of time people spend on social media each day is on the rise, they are spending less time engaging with individual posts. Studies suggest that the attention span of the average user is now around 8 seconds long.
Social platforms are adjusting to meet these stats by offering bite-size content options, such as short-form videos and disappearing content, aka, Stories.
Augmented reality is in demand
Searches for “social media AR” are on the rise, and while this market is still fairly new, it is expected to gain serious momentum in the coming years.
Augmented and virtual reality are expected to become more mainstream, and social media platforms are getting in on the trend now.
User-generated content is necessary
We’ve said this before, but UGC is incredibly important for businesses big and small, now more than ever. It has been proven that brands that use UGC have a 20% increase in return visitors and a 90% increase in the time that consumers spend on their websites.
If you are already utilizing UGC, continue to make this an integral part of your social media strategy for the upcoming year!
